We also love sharing our knowledge and expertise, because we strongly believe that in understanding why children have these difficulties, the how of helping them to overcome them suddenly makes sense.
Deb Hopper, our experienced in-house Occupational Therapist brings her passion and experience of over 15 years of working with children and youth. Deb and our team just want to be there with you on the ground and provide you with the best evidenced-based resources and empower you with high quality best practice knowledge to help children with a range of difficulties including children with autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, learning difficulties.
Even if children don’t have a diagnosis such as Autism and ADHD, our team understands that children often struggle with concentration and attention in class.
So what might some kids “look like” who struggle with sensory processing disorder, or underlying sensory issues?
- Some kids just can’t seem to sit still, always needing to get up and move.
- Other kids may appear lethargic, tired and just can’t get going. Sometimes they may even be called lazy.
- Some children struggle with meltdowns, coping with noisy or busy crowds.
- Some children having been labelled as have ‘behaviour’ issues (when actually it might be a sensory processing disorder or a physiologic reason underlying the why of the behaviour).
Often children have diagnoses such as Autism, ADHD and learning difficulties. Sometimes kids have no diagnoses but may have underlying sensory processing issues.
These sensory processing issues may be also known as sensory processing disorder, and can impact a child’s ability to
- Self-regulate, modulate or control their behaviour or meltdowns
- Sit still and concentrate in class
- Be alert enough to be physically able to engage, take in and understand new concepts being taught
Our practical resources and books help you understand and work with children who have diagnoses such as autism, ADHD, learning difficulties or struggle to concentrate in class. Our staffs are trained to know and suggest practical tools that may benefit your child.
Our goal at Life Skills 4 Kids is to share our knowledge and empower others to help children to be able to engage in their learning, so that they can access the curriculum.
Every child is different, and at Life Skills 4 Kids we empower you by presenting a wide range of evidence-based tools and strategies to meet the needs of your particular child. We’re easily accessible, and our programs are easy to understand and simple to use.
